CDE EXPOSES FRAUDULENT DEALS IN ECG

The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd. Mr kwame Agyeman Budu has unilaterally awarded contracts to the tune of Five hundred and Six million, Seven hundred and ninety thousand, and five Hundred and twenty dollars ($566,790,520) in the year 2021 alone without heeding to the procurement law of Ghana.

Briefing newsmen upon receipt of the evaluation report on contracts awarded by the electricity company of Ghana in 2021,'' the Director of Operations of Centre for Democratic empowerment, Mr Ernest Dannsa Appiah bemoaned the practice where chief executive officers of state institutions flout the procurement rules of this country with impunity and arrogate to themselves, the power to procure goods, service and works without recourse to the procurement laws.mr. Enerst dannsa Appiah wondered why a country like Ghana with all the procurement regulating and monitoring agencies like the public procurement authority and the ministry of procurement sit down idle and watch this fragrant misapplication of state funds to be carried out without any form of apprehension all to the detriment of the tax payer.

Mr. Appiah noted that in the year 2020, this same Mr. Agyemang Budu awarded contracts to the tune of four hundred and nine million, six hundred and eleven dollars ($409,6859,911) under the same lawless conditions.

Asked what his organization intends doing with all this revelation, Mr. Appiah indicated that, arrangements are far advanced to send the case to court
